Scotland’s first Foraging Fortnight reveals festival programme

The programme for Scotland’s first ever Foraging Fortnight, which runs from 31 August till 15 September, has officially been launched!

This brand new festival, whose activities include woodland walks, wild food feasts, wellness workshops and foraged cocktails, is set to bring together more than 100 different events from across Scotland’s five diverse regions.

From the rolling hills of Lanarkshire, the golden beaches and fields of Fife, and the mountains and coast of Moray, to the woodlands and lochs of the Forth Valley and Loch Lomond area, and the islands of Orkney, this is a programme packed with goodness – designed to help people explore Scotland’s natural places and boost their knowledge of wild food and medicinal plants.

Events include a series of Living Off The Land talks with Eva Gunnare, who is a food and culture connoisseur from Swedish Lapland and will be sharing her insights into foraging in the Arctic Circle; a free Forage to Make Hedgerow Jelly workshop at Cambo Estate; a Clyde Valley Apple Walk; Explore the Edible Seashore workshop to explore marine life and discover the edible seaweeds growing in Moray, and Old Ways and New Journeys, a survival skills discussion with glacier guide and wilderness instructor Zeki Basan on the island of Orkney.

The festival programme has been designed to encourage people of all ages to take part in different foraging activities safely and responsibly, while discovering the most breath-taking parts of Scotland.

“This is the first time an event like this has taken place in Scotland and I’m delighted by the strength, diversity and ambition of the programme,” says Catharine Idle, programme coordinator for LEADER in Fife, which is supporting the project alongside Scottish Natural Heritage.

“From mindful workshops and wild food feasts to talks from internationally renowned wilderness experts, Foraging Fortnight truly celebrates Scotland’s rural areas and shows the wealth of opportunities for everyone to get involved in foraging.”

DON’T MISS! The Scottish Wild Food Festival at Cardross Estate in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park on 14 September.

Activities will include hands-on foraging, mindful workshops, folklore walks and the chance to make fresh food and drink from wild ingredients.

One-table feasts will also be presented by Rupert Waites of Buck & Birch and Marysia Paszkowska of Monachyle Mhor.
