Tried and tested – Edinburgh’s new anti-ageing treatment

I check into Soul Retreat, Edinburgh’s Urban Spa, to experience the latest in anti-ageing facials from Europe

I have pictured and written (and somewhat dreamed) about Soul Retreat for many years now, but never visited in person.

This time, however, I’m here to experience the DermaOrganic Dermation Facial, which is completely new to Scotland – having only just landed from Poland.

Soul Retreat is Scotland’s first and only wellness centre to offer the treatment.

“When we heard about this amazing, natural treatment that offers real results, we just couldn’t say no,” says spa co-founder Charlene.

In fact, the team at the organic spa, which offers hair and beauty treatments, yoga classes and wellbeing workshops, jumped at the chance.

And I’m so glad they did.

My treatment starts with a thorough cleanse, followed by some exfoliation and a light peel.

Then Charlene places a conductor pad under my right shoulder.

“Don’t worry,” she tells me. “You shouldn’t feel a thing. Although, if you have fillings, you might experience a metallic taste in your mouth.”

And I did. It was the strangest sensation ever and heightened in intensity the closer the ‘tool’ got to my mouth.

The best way I can describe it is… having someone draw all over your face with a pen and then erase it with a wet roller.

But Charlene tells me the ‘pen’ part is opening the pores of the skin, while the roller is infusing the special beauty elixir into the dermis – boosted by the electricity.

This alternating pen-roller part lasts around 25 minutes and finishes with an aloe vera mask and facial massage.

Charlene also treats me to an arm and hand massage which makes the treatment much more relaxing than it otherwise would have been.

No pain, no gain!

But I wouldn’t call it pain – just slightly uncomfortable, or perhaps just not the most relaxing facial I’ve ever had.

All I felt was a slight pressure and the results were certainly worth it in the end.

At first glance, I noticed the lines on my forehead were less pronounced and, as the days went on, my skin positively glowed.

Any evidence of my adult acne was gone and, while I still had those life lines, I definitely had a much more youthful look.

All I can say is, I’m loving my ‘new’ face and will certainly be back for more!

Thank you, Soul Retreat!

How it works

The Dermation Facial’s reputation as a revolutionary skin regeneration treatment comes from its fusion of highly concentrated active organic ingredients and use of Nobel prize-winning transdermalportation technology.

The treatment uses low current pulses of electricity to open the skin’s pores in a technique otherwise known as electroportation.

This means its active anti-ageing beauty cocktail can be applied and absorbed into the skin on a cellular level for maximum effect.

Benefits include being able to treat fine lines and wrinkles and specific skin conditions, such as acne, and reducing puffiness.

The treatment also boosts collagen and elastin production and has a firming, lifting, hydrating and regenerating effect on the skin.
