Scotland’s first ever Southside Wellbeing Festival is set to kick off in Glasgow this month
The event is being held by The Wee Retreat CIC and Southside Fringe, in partnership with Finn’s Place, between 20 and 22 May to bring lots of free events to help boost the mental health and wellbeing of people living in the Southside of Glasgow.
Funded by Glasgow Community Mental Health Fund, the festival will offer a variety of healthy activities, such as meditation, fermentation, and poetry.
The festival will launch with a celebration of World Meditation Day on Friday, 20 May when members of the public are invited to a free morning meditation session at The Wee Retreat CIC.
Later that evening, a Wellbeing Fair will take place at Finn’s Place, where visitors can discover ways to improve their wellbeing – which might include yoga, creative writing, massage, Pilates, exercise or meditation.
Guests can also expect free taster music and drumming sessions and plenty of refreshments.
On Saturday 21, May, The Wee Retreat will host its Wee Open Day offering free taster sessions, finger foods and child-friendly activities.
Meanwhile, over at Finn’s Place, activities include learning how to ferment your own vegetables with MILK Cafe and dance tasters from Scottish Ballet to improve your mental, physical and social wellbeing.
Lastly, on Sunday, 22 May, Finn’s Place will host an afternoon of Breath Yoga which will explore how breathing techniques can help support better mental and physical health.
You can also take part in an Introduction to Yin Yoga workshop at The Wee Retreat, where the event will close with a poetry share workshop.
All the events are free of charge, with the exception of Sunday’s Introduction to Yin Yoga and Breath Yoga workshops. These classes cost £5 and can be booked here.
Some other events require pre-booking as spaces are limited. The Fermentation Workshop by MILK Cafe has already sold out.
