Why turmeric could improve your workout performance

Earths Secret founder Amy Peacock shares how taking turmeric before or after a workout could improve your performance, energy levels and endurance

There are thousands of supplements on the market which promise to give us more energy and speed up our recovery, but what if a centuries-old spice that’s a store-cupboard staple could be the answer?

Turmeric is a vibrant orange powder that comes from the root of the perennial Curcuma longa plant and has been used as a ‘folk remedy’ in traditional Ayurvedic practice for centuries.

Curcumin which is extracted from the turmeric root, is considered to be the ultimate compound for cellular health, known for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Here’s why you should add curcumin and turmeric to your workout regime:

·       Turmeric has been clinically proven to reduce feelings of fatigue. It delivers energy naturally, without the negative side-effects such as jitters or energy crash associated with stimulants that contain caffeine.

·       Studies show it improves symptoms of delayed onset muscle soreness, meaning you can exercise more frequently without the need for rest and recovery days.

·       Turmeric supplementation helps to reduce exercise-induced inflammation which may allow for a higher training intensity (hello PB!)

·       Studies have shown that turmeric supplementation can improve alertness and attention span, giving mental focus and clarity during workouts.
